Coastal Cleanup Day
Come join us on Saturday September 25 from 9 AM 12 noon for the biggest volunteer event in San Diego County Coastal Cleanup Day 2010. Singles, families and groups are needed to make a difference to our beautiful coastline and open space preserves. Last year, more than 10,000 volunteers removed over 174,000 pounds of debris from our beaches, bays, canyons and open space areas. Join us this year and make a difference in our community.
There are over 80 sites to choose from, ranging as far north as Oceanside CA, all the way to the across the border in Tijuana, Baja California. There are many inland sites available too, as far east as Ramona and Alpine.
Sign up now to select your favorite site (this year we will be at Moonlight Beach Encinitas), or choose a coastal cleanup site that needs more volunteers. Sign up at http://www.cleanupday.org/. Bring your bucket and work gloves and help pick up trash and debris along our beautiful San Diego coastline and waterways.
Vote Yes on California Proposition 21
California State Parks Initiative
Tuesday November 21 is election day in California, and this year we have a chance to make a difference to our state parks and beaches. California state parks are in peril and budget cuts are starving them. California Proposition 21 will create a trust fund within the state treasure and money available will be used strictly for operation and maintenance of California state parks and beaches, wildlife and natural resource conservation, outreach and public education.
Our state parks cover over 1.5 million acres, and are a treasure for all Californians to enjoy. In many areas, including San Diego, our state parks are an important part of our local economy. Unfortunately due to politics in Sacramento, funding for our state parks and beaches is questionable at best, and many sites have reduced hours, services, or have been shut down.
This election day, please vote Yes on California Proposition 21 to support your State Parks and Beaches. Prop. 21 will create a stable source of funding for state parks. California vehicles will get free day-use admission in exchange for a new $18 annual fee. Please vote Yes to protect our beautiful California beaches and parks, including many of our favorite San Diego parks and beaches. For more information a bout this California State Parks Initiative, see http://www.calparks.org/takeaction/.
