San Diego Winter ActivitiesWinter is a special time in San Diego. In addition to the holiday season, we get to enjoy our beautiful San Diego beaches at low tides. Choose from this list of fun activities in San Diego this holiday season and winter. Use our convenient San Diego Tide Chart to help you pick the best day at the beach. Beach Photography: Gather your family together for some memorable beach photos, such as at Windansea or along the cliffs of Torrey Pines. These sites are best at low tide. Afterwards, you can make a calendar out of your pictures, and have the tide chart on your calendar, so you can tell at-a-glance when it’s a great day for the beach. Order Personalized 2011 Tide Calendar Beach Walking at Low Tide: When the tide is low, our beaches are transformed into long sandy stretches for walking and running. You can explore areas that may be hard to reach at high tide, such as the entire Solana Beach coastline, or Blacks Beach in La Jolla. For some suggested beaches to walk, see best San Diego beaches for walking. San Diego Sunsets: Winter also offers some spectacular early sunsets over the Pacific Ocean. In December, you can view a great San Diego sunset some from places that close at 5 PM. Watch a sunset at Point Loma in San Diego or in Encinitas at the Self Realization Fellowship Meditation Gardens. For other places to watch the sun go down, see San Diego sunset. San Diego Tidepools: If you are looking for some fun activities in San Diego during the winter, tidepooling is one of my favorite things to do. You’ll never know what you’ll see. Some of the best San Diego tide pools are in Point Loma and La Jolla CA. You can go on your own, or explore with a docent. For more information, see San Diego Tide Pools Whale Watching in San Diego: From December – April, enjoy the whale watching season in San Diego, and watch the gray whale migration from Alaska to Baja California. You can enjoy them from land or sea. This is one of the popular San Diego activities. Whale Watching in San Diego San Diego Museums: Every Tuesday, some of the museums in Balboa Park are free to San Diego residents. Why not visit your favorite museum? This also makes a great rainy day activity. Free Tuesdays at Balboa Park Museums
