La Jolla Coast Walk

I highly recommend the La Jolla Coast Walk, one of the Best Walking Tours in La Jolla San Diego CA. With our lovely spring weather, this is the perfect time for locals to play tourist in our own hometown.

The La Jolla coast in the downtown Village of La Jolla offers some of the best views and scenery in San Diego. I've brought visitors here twice in the last few months, and I can't believe how awesome it is.

I recommend you start your visit on the west end, near the Children's Pool, where the harbor seals put on a lazy but entertaining free show. While the city of San Diego debates about whether the seals will get exclusive use of this tiny beach, the seals are oblivious, and just bask in the sun. I enjoy going out on the sea wall to check out all the sights - the seals, the life down under the water, and the view of the La Jolla coastline.

As you head east toward Ellen Browning Scripps Park, you can stop at Shell Beach to look for some shells, then continue on your stroll to La Jolla Cove, another great spot for some La Jolla pics, with La Jolla Bay as the backdrop.

After you pass La Jolla Cove, continue to the Cave Store for a climb down to Sunny Jim cave, or up the dirt path for some off-the-beaten path views of the La Jolla coast line. For more information about the La Jolla Coast walking tours, see La Jolla Coast Walk.

La Jolla Beach San Diego

While the La Jolla Coast Walk is a great sight seeing walking tour, there are many lovely La Jolla beaches. Which is the best La Jolla beach in San Diego? It depends what you want to do.

I think the best La Jolla beach for activities is La Jolla Shores. We enjoyed the kayaking tour to the La Jolla Sea Caves, and exploring the restaurants and shops along nearby Avenida de la Playa. We also like the 30 by 75 foot La Jolla Shore Map illustrating the La Jolla Underwater Park & Ecological Reserve topology, animal species, dive sites and other underwater features of the area. The map can be found near the playground at Kellogg Park.
