Miramar Air Show - October 12 - 14 2012 at Miramar - Spectacular airshow with the famous U.S. Navy Blue Angels, The Canadian SnowBirds, and much more. Free general admission, but preferred seating tickets are on sale now. One of the great San Diego events in October to honor our military. Annual Pacific Beachfest - October 1 2012 from 11 AM – 7:00 PM. Join in this fun annual beach fest in Pacific Beach. Beach volleyball, music, food, fine arts and crafts, kid rides, best tacos, fireworks and more!. At fun Pacific Beach California (from I-5 go west on Grand Avenue). A free San Diego event. La Jolla Art and Wine Festival - Saturday and Sunday October 13 - 14 2012 from 10 AM to 6 PM on Upper Girard Avenue. A fun outdoor activity in La Jolla San Diego, to fund programs at local schools. lajollaartandwinefestival.com
San Diego Botanic Garden Orchid Fair - Saturday and Sunday Oct. 6 - 7 2012 at 230 Quail Gardens Drive in Encinitas. Join us for a chocolate experience. Enjoy the annual orchid fair at the San Diego Botanic Garden, formerly Quail Botanical Gardens. SD Orchid Fair
Family Days at Maritime Museum - October 7 2012 at the Maritime Museum of San Diego. All kids 12 and under are free. Kids activities from 11 AM – 3 pm. $14 for adult tickets, 2 kids free per paid adult. For an additional $3 you can take a Historic Bay Cruise on San Diego Bay aboard the 1914 harbor Pilot boat. The Sky Tonight Planetarium Shows - Wednesday October 3 - This monthly 2012 San Diego event is held on the first Wednesday of each month at 7:00 PM and 8:00 PM, arrive 30 minutes early to claim your seat in the SD Fleet Science Center’s Heikoff Dome Theater. Admission includes gallery admission. See the sky in San Diego that night, and learn about special topics in astronomy. Afterwards, peer through a telescope. Tickets cost $10.50 for adults, and $9.00 for children and seniors. Sky Tonight Planetarium

Pier Moon Walks - 2012 dates TBD from 6 – 8:30 PM. Cost is $25 per person. A warm night lit by a full moon is the perfect time to explore the Ellen Browning Scripps Memorial Pier, usually closed to the public. Also includes a tour of the Scripps Oceanography campus. Del Mar Mud Run - October 6 2012 at Del Mar Fairgrounds. Where the Surf Meets the Dirt! One of the dirtier San Diego Events! Individual and teams compete in this muddy event. Limit 5000 participants so sign up now. For more information Del Mar Mud Run
Weekend Beach Walks - Saturday October 13 and Sunday October 14 from about 2 PM – 4 PM will be a nice time to walk some of the local beaches at moderate low tide. Best San Diego Beaches for Walking
Urban Trees Sculptures – For a fun free San Diego activity, enjoy a stroll along the north Embarcadero and admire the 30 trees in the Urban Trees sculpture exhibit. Walk along the harbor and see all the historic ships, and go down to Seaport Village and visit the unique shops. Guided Nature Walk - Every Saturday from 10 - 11 AM at San Elijo Lagoon Nature Center, 2710 Manchester Avenue. Also, join your nature guides on the 2nd Saturday of every month, at 9 am for a two hour tour, exploring the flora, fauna and history of San Elijo Lagoon Ecological Reserve. Balboa Park Free Museum Tuesday for Residents and Military - Some Balboa Park museums are free on 1st - 4th Tuesdays of each month to locals (San Diego Cal. Kayak at La Jolla Shores - This fall is a great time to kayak at La Jolla Shores to see the Sea Caves, marine life, and leopard sharks. Several different companies offer kayaking tours, or you can launch your own kayak at the free boat ramp. For more information see La Jolla Kayaking
IMAX movie - Daily at the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center in Balboa Park San Diego, California. Enjoy an IMAX film. Current features include IMAX Hubble, The Ultimat Wave Tahiti, and Coral Reef Adventure. Early bird specials every Saturday and Sunday at 10 AM - enjoy a family-friendly early Bird Special IMAX film for $8.50 and free admission to all exhibit galleries. Scream Zone Del Mar - September 28 - October 31 2012, the best San Diego Halloween adventure awaits you at the Scream Zone at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, Sat and Sun 7 PM to midnight, check website for other nights availability. The Haunted Hotel - tentative dates September 29 - October 31 2012 in the Gaslamp Quarter at 424 market St. Tickets on sale now for this annual horror-house scream fest. Half-price tickets on opening night September 23. Not for children 10 and younger or those easily frightened. Fri and Sat 6 PM - 1 AM, Sun, Wed and Thurs 7 PM - 11 PM. Closed Monday and Tuesday except for 10/29 and 10/30. Tickets on sale now – buy online to avoid waiting in line. $17 on Friday and Saturday, $15 other nights. Only for brave souls willing to scream. Balboa Park Halloween Family Day - Saturday October 27 2012. Spend the day at Balboa Park at this third annual Halloween Family Day. Kids 17 and under will be admitted free to all museums with a paid adult admission. Hands-on activities, music, performances and special programs including a doggie costume contest at the Spanish Village Art Center and a Great Pumpkin parachute at the San Diego Air and Space Museum.
